Pigs and Chickens
Want to know what it is like to look after pigs or chickens?
Come and learn all about our 2 Kune Kune pigs and our chickens in an hour master class. You will learn about:

Their background and breed

Feeding
-
Maintaining their skin, coats and feathers

Pig mannerisms and flock behaviour

Their habitat & how to manage it
-
Carrying out routine care and monitoring the Health and Well-being of chickens and pigs
What to expect
You will arrive @theland and take a tour of our 3 acre plot. We will go through some basic safety information (approx 10mins).
During the pig & chicken experience you will gain knowledge about each of our pigs, their breed and their story. We will introduce the chickens and explain about their background and breed too. We will introduce you to our pigs and you will get to groom them. We will show you how to change the pigs bed and manage it to ensure they are warm and comfortable. Then onto the feeding and getting a photo with both of our pigs (approx 20/25mins).
You will be shown how to bring hold a chicken (photo opportunity) and how to check their feathers and general wellbeing. The chickens will also benefit from a small tidy up in their hen house and you will collect their eggs for the day. These eggs will need dating and storing ready for you to take home. We will feed the hens and discussing their diet (approx 15/20mins).
Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It's advised to wear wellies or walking boots, gloves and waterproof clothing.
We ask you to join us with a sense of open-mindedness. When working with animals, the schedule revolves around them.

Bee Experiences
Want to know what it is like to have your own bee hive? Come and learn all about our bees in a 1.5 hour session where you will gain knowledge about:

Environmental impact

Carrying out routine care and monitoring the Health and Well-being of bees

Handling and checking the hive

Reviewing & completing the hive record
What to expect
You will arrive @theland and take a tour of our 3 acre plot. We will go through some basic safety information (approx 10min).
During the bee hive experience you will gain knowledge about our hive and their background. We will explain about colony behaviour, their routines depending on seasons, the task we will be carrying out when entering the hive (which will differ on each experience), and then you will get changed into a bee suit (approx 30mins)
You will be shown how to open the hive, what to look for, and how to check the general health and well being of the hive (approx 30/45min). We will show you how to carry out the task in hand safely and correctly and if possible we will get a photo of you checking the hive. You will finish the session by reviewing our findings and completing the hive record (approx 10mins).
Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It's advised to wear wellies to tuck your suit into, a pair of marigold gloves and waterproof or thick clothing. In summer you are able to wear light clothing but still ensure you wear wellies and bring gloves. A baseball hat is also advisable to stop the veil resting on your face during the hive inspection.

Horse Experiences
Love horses? Want to know what it is like to look after a horse? Come and learn all about our horses in a 1 hour session where you will gain knowledge about:

Catching & turning out horses (time permitting)

Fitting, removing and maintaining tac (time permitting)

Carrying out routine care and monitoring the Health and Well-being of Horses

What to expect
You will arrive @theland and take a tour of our 3 acre plot. We will go through some basic safety information (approx 10min).
During the horse experience you will gain knowledge about each of our horses and their story. We will explain about field and stable management, their routines, herd behaviour, and then you will get to meet the horse you will be grooming. You will be shown how to bring the horse in from the field and be able to guide it down to the stables. We will show you how to groom the horse to a good standard (approx 30mins). We will tac up a horse ready for riding (time permitting) and explain what commands are used for getting the horse to stand, walk and trot. This is called lunging (approx 20mins, weather permitting). You will finish the session by feeding the horses and getting a photo with them.
