What to expect

You will arrive @theland and take a tour of our 3 acre plot. We will go through some basic safety information (approx 10min).

During the bee hive experience you will gain knowledge about our hive and their background. We will explain about colony behaviour, their routines depending on seasons, the task we will be carrying out when entering the hive (which will differ on each experience), and then you will get changed into a bee suit (approx 30mins)

You will be shown how to open the hive, what to look for, and how to check the general health and well being of the hive (approx 30/45min). We will show you how to carry out the task in hand safely and correctly and if possible we will get a photo of you checking the hive. You will finish the session by reviewing our findings and completing the hive record (approx 10mins).

Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It's advised to wear wellies to tuck your suit into, a pair of marigold gloves and waterproof or thick clothing. In summer you are able to wear light clothing but still ensure you wear wellies and bring gloves. A baseball hat is also advisable to stop the veil resting on your face during the hive inspection.

We ask you to join us with a sense of open-mindedness. When working with animals, the schedule revolves around them.
